Think of your family (including your grandparents, great-grandparents, and the generations before them) as a large, intricate web, where every person and every event is a thread.
In Family Constellation, we seek to understand how every thread and every connection in this web influences us—our current life and our relationships today. Sometimes, difficulties we experience in life—in relationships, at work, with our children, or simply unexplainable feelings of restlessness, sadness, or difficulty moving forward—are deeply connected to events that occurred in our extended family system in the past, even if we are not consciously aware of them.
This can involve old secrets, intergenerational trauma such as severe illnesses, premature death, abandonment, wars, or any other significant event that was never fully processed.
Family Constellation was developed by Bert Hellinger, a German missionary, psychotherapist, and philosopher, who lived for about 15 years with the Zulu tribe. He observed the significant place they gave to the deceased in their daily lives and realized how unresolved emotions can be "etched" into the collective memory of the family system.
It is somewhat like receiving an "emotional inheritance" or an "unclosed file" without asking for it or even knowing about it, which can deeply affect us without us understanding why. The goal of Constellation work is to "free" ourselves from these unconscious influences and untangle the hidden knots that restrict our freedom of movement, so that we can live a more full, balanced, and free life—one where we choose our own path and are not driven by hidden loyalties.
In this course, we will learn the fundamentals of the method and gain practical experience with treatments.
